Working From Home: How To Use Your Phone As A Scanner

Working from home can come with a variety of issues, from difficulty finding a quiet, comfortable workspace to not having the tools you need to do common tasks. If scanning important documents to use online or for business transactions has become an issue, there are some simple solutions right in the palm of your hand.

Did you know iOS and Google Drive allow you to scan documents for free with your phone or tablet? A program or app performs the scan using your camera.

Scanning documents on your Android device:

You’ll need to install Google Drive to scan documents on your Android device. The app generally comes pre-installed but if you don’t have it, download it for free from the Google Play Store.

Now it’s time to get to work. Open Google Drive and tap the + symbol. Under the Create New tab, select Scan. Position the phone’s camera over the document, and tap the Shutter button when you’re ready to capture the image. Tap the checkmark to keep the scan or tap trash to delete it. Tap the + symbol to scan more images or tap the checkmark to finish and upload your document to Google Drive.

Scanning documents on your iPhone or iPad:

Apple’s document scanner is located inside the Notes app. First, you’ll need to open Notes on your iPhone or iPad. Create a new note or tap on an existing one to add a document to it.

To get started simply tap the Camera button at the bottom of the screen or keyboard. Next, tap Scan Documents and line up the document you want to scan. Tap the Shutter button if the scanner doesn’t automatically scan the document. Finally, tap Save and the scanned pages will appear in a new note in the Notes app.
