As businesses continue to take a hit as they keep their doors closed, platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest have taken action to help make online shopping easier and more accessible for users. In the News: Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest Make Updates to Promote Users to Shop

Facebook Announces “Shops”

Facebook Shops allows businesses to set up a free, online store for customers to access on both Facebook and Instagram.

Businesses can choose the products they want to feature from their catalog and customize the look of their shop by choosing colors and a cover image that aligns with their brand.

Users will be able to find Facebook Shops on a Facebook Business Page or Instagram profile. They will also be able to discover them through stories or ads. Once they arrive at the shop, they can browse the featured products, save the ones they are interested in, or place an order. The order can be processed either on the business’ website or on the app if checkout is enabled.

Instagram Creates a Guide to Help users Connect with Resources and Products

A new Instagram feature called Guides is an easy way for users to discover recommendations, tips, and content from their favorite public figures and organizations. To view a Guide, visit the profile of participating creators or organizations and click on the middle icon. If you would like to learn more about a specific post, you can tap on the image or video and it will show you the original Instagram post. You can also share a Guide to your Stories or in direct messages by tapping on the share button in the upper right-hand corner.

Pinterest Introduces ‘Shopping Spotlights’ to Highlight Product Recommendations

Shopping Spotlights is a product recommendation tool that showcases products from fashion influencers and publishers. The content shown varies based on a user’s interests and Pinterest Trends.

If you want to try out this new feature, you can find it on the search tab with articles featuring product Pins that link directly to in-stock retailer product pages where Pinners can make their purchase.
