How To Drive More Traffic to Your Older Blog Posts

Typically, when people have questions, they’ll turn to the internet to find answers. This is a great opportunity for your website to attract searchers by posting blogs that are indexed in search results. Having a successful blog will help to increase your credibility and generate more website visits and online leads. A blog will continue to gain traction over time and the library of content you create can continue to add value for your business for months and years to come. But to ensure that your posts are serving you well, it’s a good idea to periodically update them in order to ensure that they keep getting traffic. To reinvigorate an existing blog post, ask yourself the following questions.

Is the information still relevant?

People are always looking for new and improved ways to do things. For example, in 2021 people might search for things like “social media trends in 2021” or “how to gain followers in 2021.” If you have a published blog that still reflects the best practices in the new year, you might consider swapping out the year mentioned in order to refresh the content. If there are a few statements in the blog that are no longer the best solutions or recommendations, try rewriting a bit to keep things up to date.

Are there new keywords you can try?

When you notice that a well-written blog post isn’t being visited very often, it might be time to take a second look at the keywords used within the blog. Make sure you haven’t made any common keyword mistakes, and analyze the words you’re currently using. Try editing the blog to test different variations of words that may attract searchers that are interested in your content. In addition to the copy in the post itself, take a look at the keywords you used to optimize the blog in the backend of your website. You might consider making adjustments there as well.

Which posts should be updated first?

It’s a good idea to continuously update past blog posts to ensure that your content is fresh and relevant. Start with posts that reference popular topics and information that’s still useful. It may be counter-intuitive, but sometimes the best strategy is to update the blogs that are getting the most traffic, since people are still searching for those topics. With a few tweaks, you can improve things even further. Blogs that are getting less traffic can still be improved, but search volume for those topics may be low. Try to maintain a balance, however, because if a blog is already performing exceptionally well, you don’t want to risk disrupting that traffic.

Most importantly, make sure your blog demonstrates your expertise and do not compromise the quality of the information by updating keywords or dates just because you hope it will bring in more traffic. Coming up on the first page of search results is great, but if you’re not providing value for the searchers who find your posts, you won’t see long-term results.

Companies with blogs produce an average of 67% more leads monthly than companies that don’t blog.
