KWSM Gives Back

Dec 2017

The holidays are in full swing, and for many, this can be a chaotic time. That’s why it’s especially important to take a step back from the holiday madness and remember what’s important – it’s the season of giving, after all! At KWSM, we do that by giving back to the community. For the second year in a row, we spent our morning volunteering at the Second Harvest Food Bank’s Food Distribution Center, sorting food and doing our part in bettering the community (and ourselves!) in the process. Together, we sorted and packaged 14,000 pounds of food and 25 full pallets!

For me, this opportunity allows me to hit pause on the constant to-do list running in my head. For a few hours, I can turn off anything stressing me out and focus on the task at hand. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience to be able to put your effort into something new, and that makes a real impact on the lives of those around me. Not to mention, it allows me to engage with my coworkers in a setting outside of the office, and I always walk away knowing a little more about my coworkers than I did going into it.

A Little About Second Harvest

The Second Harvest Food Distribution Center is where they make the magic happen. Here, their staff and volunteers work together to sort, package, and distribute enough food to feed 250,000 men, women, and children each month. Last year, Second Harvest distributed the equivalent of more than 21.6 million meals to the hungry in Orange County!

Interested in volunteering? Second Harvest has a variety of projects for individuals and groups on weekdays, evenings, and weekends to fit your schedule. Just three hours of your time can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. Just email the volunteer department at or visit their website.
