Writing a blog consistently for your brand is a great way to drive traffic to your website. You have to ability to position your company as a thought leader in your industry.

Below are some tips on how to write a solid, thought-provoking blog that will help prove you’re the expert!

Do Your Research

A winning blog post is a relevant one. Before you start writing, do some research to find out what your audience wants to know. Becoming a thought leader in your industry means connecting with people. You need to provide the answers to their questions and be the expert they have access to. You can also increase your SEO with blogging by researching and implementing relevant keywords– these will help form your blog topic.

Once you have decided what you want to write about, it’s important to fact check the information you are sharing. Being an expert source means that you need to share information that is consistently reliable. This builds credibility and long-term trust with your audience.

Start With a Messy Draft

The best way to put a dent into your blog post is to start writing. The point of starting with a draft is that you shouldn’t expect it to be perfect on the first try. Write down all the facts and thoughts first, and worry about the structure and grammar later on during your revision process. Focusing on the content of your story first will help you get all your knowledge out on the page right away and cut down the time you spend writing.

Get to The Point

Structure sentences and paragraphs that are shorter and to the point. If the content of your blog is overly wordy, your readers may lose interest. I’ll keep this section short and sweet to prove my point.

Spend Time Away From Your Writing

Many writers will go back and start revising their work for grammar mistakes and awkward wording immediately after finishing their first draft. Personally, I am my own best editor when I step away from my work and come back later with fresh eyes. I may grab a quick snack or coffee and focus on something else. Once I’ve finally gone back and completed my revisions, I’ll share my work with a trusted colleague or friend for feedback, for a second pair of eyes never hurts!

Capture Your Audience’s Attention With Your Headline

I like to create my headline after I’ve written my blog post. I’ll reread my work and form a title that both represents the story and implements keywords. Think about your topic and how your audience may word it in a Google search if they want to find answers to questions they may have.
