Writer’s block is an experience we are all bound to face at some point. Creating content daily on your social media channels can leave you feeling like you have already used all your great ideas, but rest assured, there are always more!
Writer’s block can without a doubt be frustrating and stressful, but luckily, there are a few helpful strategies that can help you overcome it.
Take Note
Do you ever come across something you read online, or see something as you are driving by and think to yourself, “That would make a great post,” but a few days later, you are unable to remember what you were thinking about?
To avoid this, keep a pocket notebook handy to jot down your daily inspirations as they come to you. You could also make a note in your phone. This will allow you to build up an arsenal of content ideas to rely on as the days and weeks go by.
Freewriting is Your Friend
If you are stuck staring at your keyboard and find yourself drawing a blank, try this: using a notebook or any sort of paper (not a computer or an electronic device), free write anything and everything that comes to mind about your industry/topic. Time yourself for 10 minutes, and write for the entire time. It doesn’t matter if your sentences don’t make sense, and don’t worry about being grammatically correct. Just focus on getting your thoughts out.
After this exercise, read what you wrote. Write down the new ideas that come to you on a separate piece of paper, or in a document on your computer. What’s great about this activity is that it forces you into action. If you find this method helpful, you may want to consider using this exercise regularly to brainstorm content.
Set Aside Time
If you usually wait to come up with your content until you post, you may want to rethink your strategy. Setting aside time every week or every two weeks to write out topics for your posts for the next 5-10 days can be your saving grace. Create and save your posts in a word document, and visit that document daily when you live schedule your posts. This way, you put less pressure on yourself to create the perfect post on the fly. It is also a more efficient way to approach your social media strategy.
