Blogging. You see everyone and every business do it, and you’re probably thinking, “There are millions of blogs out there, why do I need to jump on the bandwagon?” Well, there’s a reason (or three) that so many people are taking up blogging, and I’ll tell you why you should be doing it too.
Blogging allows you to churn out fresh and original content on a consistent basis (given that you are diligent with it). This is important because Google uses an algorithm that rewards sites that have fresh and original content. Meaning, if you blog properly, you site will get ranked higher on Google search results. Not a bad deal, right?
Another reason why you should be blogging is because it will help establish your credibility. Let’s face it: there are probably hundreds of other people who are in the same trade as you, and competition can get rough. What sets you apart from the others? Blogging gives you a platform to address this. You can use blogging to give a voice to your business, and talk about subjects that might not be on your website. Blogging allows you to be creative and to show your potential customers and clients that you are different from the rest of your competition. And with regular blogging, people will learn to trust you, and you can establish yourself as a thought-leader in your industry.
The last reason why you should be blogging, and my favorite, is that it gives you content that you can repurpose and reuse on your other social media. Blogging can be time consuming, but if you are creative and repurpose your material, you can get a lot out of one blog entry. For example, one blog entry can be chopped up into dozens of 140-character tweets that you can schedule out on your Twitter account. Or you can use snippets from your blog as content on Facebook, or as discussion starters on LinkedIn groups. Maybe you can even elaborate on a point and make a video of it to upload to YouTube. The possibilities are endless.
