Free Tools to Make Crafting Social Media Posts Easier

May 2020

From scheduling and reporting software, to project management software and CRMs, there are plenty of heavy-hitting tools for social media managers, but sometimes it’s the small things that make the day-to-day of your social media plan run smoothly. Here are a few simple tools that make crafting our posts—writing copy, creating images, and hashtagging—a little bit easier.

In 2019, 92% of online users reported using emojis. To say that they’re everywhere is an understatement! When used correctly, emojis can help your business appear more approachable and conversational. If you’ve decided that your brand voice is one that might use the occasional “face with tears of joy” emoji (?) in your copy, Emojipedia is the tool for you.

Emojipedia makes all 3,304 emojis searchable by relevant keywords so you don’t have to spend valuable time squinting at your phone trying to hunt them down. It shows you (in conveniently enlarged images) how each emoji will appear on 14 different platforms. Emojipedia also groups emojis into categories so that you can easily find ones you might not have thought of, and keeps tabs on change logs of new emojis coming to different platforms and operating systems.

If you’re stumped when it comes to hashtagging your posts, look to a hashtag generator to set you on the right path. Toolzu’s hashtag generator generates relevant hashtags based on keywords, a website URL, or an uploaded photo, and even gives you insightful popularity metrics. They also have a list of the top 100 trending hashtags on Instagram for you to keep up with trends.

For free help with your Instagram hashtags, Influencer Marketing Hub will generate hashtags by analyzing the Instagram photo you’re planning to post. Be warned that this generator mostly suggests obvious attributes of your photo as hashtags and doesn’t provide the popularity analysis that Toolzu does, but sometimes having a jumping-off point is all you really need to get going.

The Stocks

We all find ourselves in need of a well-chosen stock photo from time to time. The Stocks is a ready-made list of searchable sites for royalty-free stock photos, videos, free fonts, and other free design tools we all need in a pinch. Click through their lists of sites to find one–or several – to search. Some of our favorites are Unsplash and Pixabay.

Wanting to put your own unique design spin on your photos? No list of tools would be complete without the mention of Canva – an all-in-one design platform that lets you create quality graphics without the cost and learning curve of Photoshop. Head there for design inspiration and a full library of templates in the right dimensions for any collateral you need to create!

These are just a handful of the tools that can help you create social media posts that hit the mark every time.
