Social media marketing is not about the hard sell. That’s where many people go wrong on social. Posting a picture and a link to your product or service is not enough to get consistent sales in the digital arena. And no, adding a caption about all the benefits doesn’t count either. Sure, you’re going to talk about your business but every post should not scream, “BUY THIS NOW.”

When it comes to social media marketing, creativity, diversity and intentionality are so important. Let’s break these down so you have more context around these ideas.

Creativity

Even if you have the most professional business, your strategy still needs to be injected with a certain amount of creativity. People often mistake creativity for silliness, but it’s way more than that. Creativity is thinking outside of the box and finding new ways to achieve your goal. While developing your strategy, this should be one of your main focuses. Ask yourself:

“How can I present the benefits of this product/service in several ways?”

“What void am I filling in the industry?”

“What are my competitors missing in their digital strategies?”

Diversity

There’s a reason why ‘It’s a Small World After All,” can be so mind-numbing. Who wants to hear the same phrase repeated over and over again? The same goes for your content. Your audience does not want to see five posts in a row about purchasing your eBook. There are millions of eBooks out there, ‘why should they buy yours—or even download a free copy?’

Your content should answer this question for them. Posting educational blog posts, related third-party articles, interesting educational videos, etc helps them build trust in you and what you’re selling. When they find the variety of information you’re providing helpful, the choice to click ‘download,’ ‘add to cart’ or ‘learn more’ will be instinctive because they will want more.

Everything, every way and everywhere you post on social media should be intentional. You’ve already thought about why this post is valuable to your audience, why they’ll find it interesting and how it will help them trust you more. Share on X

Intentionality

Posting on a whim is not a strategy and most likely, won’t get you the success you’re looking for on social. This is why strategizing beforehand is so important. Map out what is important to your brand, what you want to tell your audience and how you want to tell your story. But always remember, you will need to know who your audience is, otherwise you will be speaking to everyone, which is counterproductive for your goals.

Everything, every way and everywhere you post on social media should be intentional. You’ve already thought about why this post is valuable to your audience, why they’ll find it interesting and how it will help them trust you more. Building this trust with your audience will make them more confident in buying into your brand. Having intent with every move you make will help you focus on achieving your goals.
