2020 has been a difficult year for business owners in Las Vegas and around the world. Many have changed their normal operations and had to look to alternative marketing strategies. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many have struggled to keep their doors open. Several businesses were able to continue thriving as a result of federal aid programs but due to revenue limitations, many more Las Vegas business owners were disqualified and left to find other means to continue serving their customers. The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce recently announced a potential solution for those struggling businesses.
Small Business Rental Assistance Grant
The past few months have been extremely difficult for many Las Vegas business owners to continue paying rent. Although many tenants and landlords have come to agreements to defer costs, businesses are still required to obtain the funds to keep their buildings open. The Small Business Rental Assistance Grant is aimed to help local Las Vegas businesses continue paying their rent and running their businesses smoothly. The grant will award up to $10,000 that will directly be applied to past due rental bills. Both landlords and businesses operating within Clark County are eligible to apply for this grant.
Small Business Protective Retrofit Grant
As local Las Vegas businesses have begun implementing and communicating new safety protocols to keep employees and customers protected, overall costs have increased. The Small Business Protective Retrofit Grant provides up to $5,000 in reimbursement costs for COVID-19 related safety equipment. The grant money can be applied to facility modifications, PPE equipment, screening tools, and safety training. To be eligible for the award, businesses must be located inside Clark County with an active business license, have begun operating prior to March 1, 2020, and have 20 or fewer full-time employees.
Both grants do have some additional restrictions and cannot apply to the following businesses: Cannabis-related, adult-oriented, home-based, non-profit organizations, labor unions, liquor stores, massage parlors, bail bonds, short-term lenders, and convenience stores.
As of July 21, 2020, Clark County has begun accepting applications for these business recovery grants. Applications will be accepted through August 4, 2020 and must be submitted through the ZoomGrants. Applicants may apply for both grants but must complete separate applications.
