Something new could soon be headed to your timeline! Facebook will soon be rolling out a new topic-based format to break up the stories and content that you see. The concept has been in the testing phase throughout the last year, but the platform recently initiated the change to all Australian users.

So what changes? The new topic format will essentially split your news feed up into different categories based on your likes or interests. You will be able to customize this even further with the ability to tell Facebook what you like within those specific topics. The purpose of the change is to encourage more engagement across the platform and get more interesting content to the user. This content will come from all over Facebook; not only from your current Facebook connections but also friends of friends and public content posted to the site.

With the change comes a concern from small business owners and companies using the platform to market their company. Some are nervous that these changes will make it difficult to get their content out to users. But don’t worry. According to the tech website Mashable, a Facebook representative revealed that there will be no changes made to the original news feed, and no content will be removed. These topics simply break up content from all over the site into specific categories so you can get more content that you are truly interested in.

Currently these changes are only available in Australia, but if the history of Facebook updates tells us anything, we will see these changes across the board very soon.
