Business owners know the importance of maintaining a social media presence, but not everyone does it well. Running successful social media takes time and expertise. It is not enough to occasionally publish improvised posts if you are looking to reap the full benefits that social media has to offer. There are certain habits that all companies who are successful on social media do to ensure the success of their channels.

Set Clear and Attainable Goals

To measure the success of your channel, you need to know what you are looking to achieve with these pages. Are you looking to boost sales, build a following, or establish your brand? These are important questions to ask yourself before moving forward with any social media strategy. Having these goals in place will give you something to strive for so you know whether what you are doing is working.

Track and Analyze Important Data

Did you know you can access analytics from almost every social media channel you run? Instagram just recently opened up access to users, adding itself to the long list of sites where analytics are readily available for you. We recommend checking these statistics frequently to track information about your followers such as their age, gender, location and more. Keep this information handy and compare month to month to track your progress.

Post Regularly and Consistently

You don’t have to spend all day monitoring your social media accounts, but you should allocate a certain block of time each day to check in and interact with your followers. Set aside 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at the end of each workday to post content, answer questions, and network to find new followers. With social media, consistency is key. If you know you will not be able to check in one day, schedule your posts ahead of time.

Plan Ahead

Crafting your posts a week in advance will save you time and will ensure that each post is carefully written and thought out. Sit down once a week and plan out what you are going to say on each social media channel each day. We don’t recommend scheduling these to automatically post, but writing them out in advance will make posting each morning quick and easy.

Concentrate on Engagement

Followers and likes are great, but engagement is what really matters. You can have many followers, but if they are not helping to achieve your goals, then your channels are not working successfully. Focus on engaging your audience and encouraging them to interact with your page. More interaction will ensure that you are doing things well, and your followers are more receptive to your message.

If you want your company to be successful on social media, these are the habits you should follow. Some businesses find that they do not have the time to spend running their social media. If this is the case, find out why you should outsource your social media here.
