Optimizing Your YouTube Videos

A study showed that the average number of Youtube videos a person watched each month was 106, which, if you do the math, averages out to around 3 videos per day. That’s not a lot, considering all of the cute cat and puppy videos out there that you know you’ve spent hours watching!

So if adorable little corgis and Persian kitties can get famous, why can’t you? If you have some compelling content on video, that’s great, but chances are you aren’t marketing it right. A big part of gaining visibility for your videos lies in how to properly list your videos.  Here are some quick tips to maximize your videos’ visibility:

  1. Edit Your Video: If you have a long video with a lot of content, use the Youtube video editor and split it up into smaller videos.  Keep your videos short, up to 90 seconds max.
  2. Title Your Video: Don’t use your name or business’ name as the title of the video. Instead, focus on what the clip is about. People aren’t searching for your business name—they’re searching for specific topics, how-tos, tips and advice. Titling your videos appropriately will help users find your videos faster.
  3. List Your Website URL: The first line in your description should be your website URL. If you don’t have a website, use your Facebook page. If you don’t have a Facebook page, then shame on you!  The point of listing your URL first in the description is that it’ll be the first thing people see. If they don’t read your description, at least they’ll have a chance to potentially click through to your website.
  4. Use Tags: Optimize your videos’ visibility by using relevant tags. The secret is to be as specific as possible. If you use tags that are too general, you’ll end up categorizing your video into a larger pool of other videos, reducing your chances of getting seen.

There you have it. Start re-editing those videos, and get seen on Youtube!
