New Social Media Site Ello Takes On Facebook

A new social media site, Ello has been dubbed the “anti-Facebook” by technology pundits, both for its stark, aggressively monochromatic aesthetic and for its policies. The site, founded entrepreneur Paul Budnitz, promises no ads, no selling of data, no requirement that users register under their real names and no restrictions against obscene or pornographic content.

In Atlas, ads are not bought through Facebook. Advertisers can purchase ad campaigns through Atlas, and they can choose whether or not to include it on Facebook.

But news that the company has poached Google media partnerships manager Robert Macdonald into its own newly-created media partnerships role indicates that the sleeping giant might be just about to wake up.
