It’s no secret. Livestreaming is all the rage for rabid fans of social media, and the platforms are pushing the media, too! We have livestreamed events, contests, and even product demos for clients, and they have been met with tremendous success. We often see 10x the reach and engagement of a static post, and we have even hit metrics that are 100x the norm.
We spend so much time encouraging our clients and helping them livestream, that we thought it was only natural for us to broadcast ourselves. After all, before launching a marketing agency 8 years ago, Katie spent a lot of time in front of the camera on TVs across the country.
This week, we debuted the Social Media Help Desk on Facebook Live!
Facebook Live gives us the opportunity to share our knowledge and gives our followers the chance to ask us questions, which we can answer in real time. Overall, it was an awesome experience!
Here’s what we learned from our first episode…
Expect the best, but prepare for the worst.
No matter how many times you’ve livestreamed, the unexpected can happen. In fact, things will go wrong – it’s the unwritten rule of live streaming! But as long as you accept that going into it, you’ll be better equipped to roll with the punches. It took us two takes to master the camera! Sometimes, things are glitchy. But rather than freak out and let one little bump in the road ruin the fun, we accepted that mistakes and glitches are part of the process! This wasn’t a Steve Harvey – Miss Universe situation. We kept a smile on, solved the problem, and got back on air.
It’s not as scary as it looks.
The word “live” can be enough to send even the calmest of the calm into a tailspin – but don’t let it get to your head! I’ll be the first to admit, I had a few nerves going into it. But no one is expecting you to be perfect! In fact, it’s the authenticity that makes live video content so much fun. And once the livestream was rolling and the social media banter began, I almost forgot that the camera was rolling.
There’s always next week!
