Using Photos With Faces on Instagram to Increase Engagement

We all know about the popularity of the “selfie.” The Oxford Dictionary has even added the word with the meaning: “A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.” And now, a recent study reported by Mashable states that Instagram photos with faces get 38 percent more ‘likes’ on the channel. This comes as no surprise as we know that people want to make a connection with other people on social media channels.

So what does this mean for your business? Well, if you’re on Instagram, you might want to face the fact (no pun intended) and include more people in your photos.

Here are some ways to get more faces in your Instagram feed:

Event Footage

Will your company be attending an upcoming tradeshow or industry expo? Make sure to have someone on the spot to snap photos of the event and use them on Instagram. These can be action or posed shots just as long as it includes faces of people. Other events like business mixers, industry events or simple lunch meetings with clients are all great ways to show your audience what you’re up to. A plus? You may even find more followers by tagging the events and/or by using hashtags.

Office Sharing

Showing your audience where you and members of your team work will give your audience a sneak peek of what it is like to work at your business. Maybe it’s someone’s birthday and you decorated their workspace and surprised them with donuts. Posting a photo of this will create a connection with your followers. Some other examples of office sharing may include snapping photos of a collaborative meeting or presentation in a conference room, an employee highlight for winning an award or a company outing somewhere. Maybe your team has a ritual of going to lunch together every Wednesday. Share it!

Customer Feature

This tactic will take a little help from your customers but when it’s used it can give your business a huge boost in terms of exposure of your brand and product(s). Ask your customers to send photos of him/herself using your products and post them on Instagram (don’t forget to tag the user if possible!) For instance, let’s say your business is yoga mats. Showing off a photo of a yogi striking a mean “Tree Pose” on the mat gives your followers an idea of using your product by actually seeing it in the photo. The same idea can be used for many industries such as beauty, entertainment, retail and more.

Now, all three of these suggestions may not work for your business but maybe choose one or two that fit with your company and see the ‘likes’ grow on Instagram!
