‘Tis the season for change, as social media platforms are tweaking things leading up to the holidays. Facebook gives more control to ad creators, YouTube goes for a refreshed look, and Twitter is covering up some of the channel’s conversations. These are just some of the social media trends in the news this week.

Twitter Allows You to Hide Replies

After testing in Japan and the US, Twitter finally decided to launch the “hide reply” feature all around the globe to allow its users to manage their conversations.

When a user hides a reply, everyone can still see the hidden reply by clicking and reading the full conversation. When hiding a reply, you will also be asked if you would like to block the user of the reply you are hiding. The purpose of the block option is to prevent potential retaliation from the user that is getting their reply hidden.

Facebook Creates New Tools for Advertisers

Facebook shared its new whitelist feature. This feature gives advertisers the opportunity to tell Facebook exactly what sites, videos, and apps they would like their ads to run on. Previously, Facebook utilized block lists to allow businesses to specify where they would not like their ads to run, which was much more tedious to do.

In addition to the whitelist feature, Facebook also has improved its ad delivery reports and also announced a new brand safety partner called Zefr that will work with other partners, such as DoubleVerify, Open Slate, and Integral Ad Science to help manage brand safety on Facebook.

YouTube Remodels Homepage

YouTube has been working on ways to enhance the user experience. The first thing the platform improved was the clarity of the video thumbnails in order to help you decide if you want to watch a particular video at a glance. In addition to the better thumbnail quality, the platform also cut the number of videos on the homepage from five videos to four videos per row. With the extra space, the audience sees larger thumbnails of each of the four videos and more lengthened video titles.

YouTube also is giving viewers more control with a personalized viewing experience. If you see a channel on your homepage that you don’t want to see again, you can instantly click on the three dots on the right-hand side and click don’t recommend channel.

One final feature is the ability to add multiple videos to your queue from the homepage so that way at the end of your video, the next video in your queue will play no matter what channel it’s from. Your videos will now instantly play back to back.

YouTube has over 1.9 billion monthly active logged-in users.

Do you need to start marketing your company on social media, but aren’t sure how to get started? Or maybe you’ve been posting content, but can’t seem to get the results you want.
