How to Measure Success on Social Media

How to Measure Success on Social MediaSocial media is like the 5-freeway at rush hour, jammed packed and hard to break through the crush. Facebook alone has nearly 2 billion monthly users, and about 50 million of those are businesses. So, your business is on social media. The question now is, are you using it “successfully”? What does that mean you ask? That is still a mystery to many. The goal of a social media marketing strategy can vary. So, here are the steps you need to take to measure “success” on social.

Create Big, Trackable Goals

A goal such as, “get 10 more followers this week” is only a small step towards your actual long-term goal which should be more like “Grow our Instagram following by 20% this quarter.”

This way, you can track your growth each month, and you’ll know that if you have a slow period, you’ll need to catch up. Even that goal should fit into an even bigger goal of perhaps getting more bodies into your store or increasing E-commerce sales from social media. If your ultimate goal is to increase online sales, every single thing you do on social should be stacked under that goal.

Look at Your Numbers Consistently

The digital marketplace can change before you know it. Being obsessive about numbers, however, can and will slow you down. You need to know when to look at your numbers and which numbers are most important to you. Do you know the difference between reach and impressions? Start there.

If you’re not familiar with the numbers you can track on Facebook, you should be doing in-depth research before starting any strategy. Otherwise, you’re going at your digital marketing strategy blind. It’d be like starting construction on a house without a blueprint.

Tweak your Methods

The beauty of a social media strategy is that it can be updated and tweaked if you’re not seeing the results you want. If you want to get more likes on your page, an obvious choice would be to go with a page likes ad, right? WRONG! Well, you could be wrong.

Digital marketing requires experimenting with what works and what doesn’t. If you’ve been running ads on Facebook for the last few months but remarkably your Instagram following is growing at lightning speed – guess where your audience is? Let them guide you into making the most of your strategy and budget.

Stay In the Loop

Research always will be the most integral part of any digital marketing strategy. If you want to be successful, you have to know what’s going on in the digital world around you. Just last week, Twitter just updated its character count. You should know exactly what changes are coming and how they can be used to boost your strategy.
