During the recent Instagram Creator Week, Instagram made a major announcement: In the coming months, some accounts will be able to leverage new tools and profit with Instagram monetization


This ability to profit off of the platform could be a major opportunity for creators, businesses, and brands that are already creating content to post on the platform

The rollout of these new features for creators comes a few years after the widespread launch of the Instagram shopping feature.

Instagram Monetization via Creator Shops

Creator Shops will be a place where creators or businesses with existing merchandise can set up a shop that is linked in the profile bio, letting users navigate to this new area directly from your profile. 


The goal of these Creator Shops is to make it as easy as possible for all Instagram users to shop on the platform. 


If you are a business that sells a product, this new feature may be worth setting up if you are currently utilizing Instagram in your digital marketing strategy. 


Instagram Monetization via Affiliate Sales

CEO Mark Zuckerburg shared that he wants Instagram to “help creators make a living over the long run.”


This means that businesses, brands, and creators will be able to earn a commission when another Instagram user purchases a tagged product directly off of that business’s, brand’s, or creator’s post.  This brings a totally new meaning to “social commerce.” 


This feature will also serve to label products featured in posts letting users know of the price and seller.  These posts will have a note on the posts to let other users know that their purchase will earn the original poster commission. 


Instagram will begin testing these features shortly and expects them to be widely available before the end of 2021.
