Social Media Changes We Can Expect For The Future

As the nation begins to slowly reopen, we can expect to see big changes to the way we’ll now interact, shop, and dine. Social Media is no exception; things have undoubtedly changed over the course of our COVID-19 isolation, and will forever be altered.

Take Instagram, for example. With more than 100 million users, the social media giant will be adding a new tool to help distribute important information in the post-quarantine age. Instagram will now feature Stories from official health organizations higher in your feed. This is a way to help increase the distribution of information about critical COVID-19 updates and procedures.

Keep in mind, this only relates to health organizations that you follow, so it won’t increase the reach of COVID-19 related messages across the board. For those that use Instagram to stay updated, this new feature makes it a little easier to sort through the massive amounts of content you’ll see on a daily basis.

WhatsApp, a mobile application used for chat communications, is also launching new tools to help cut back on the spread of COVID-19 misinformation. The popular communication app hopes these new features will stop misleading reports and puts new limits on “message forwarding” and Google search prompts in-stream.

They’re also partnering with Poynter Institute, a leading resource for anyone who aspires to engage and inform citizens through Journalism, on a new fact-checking bot. It will provide answers on more than 4,000 hoaxes within seconds. The new bot will utilize information supplied by over 100 independent fact-checkers, in more than 70 countries.

Did you know that WhatsApp is the 5th most downloaded app on Android devices?
