It’s a question we hear a lot, and one you may have asked a time or two. When you see posts from some companies exploding with hundreds of likes and comments, it looks easy, but when your content goes out, you’re lucky for numbers in the double digits. It’s easy to get frustrated by small numbers, especially when you watch your competitors having such roaring success. If you’re not getting heavy engagement, is it even worth your time?
YES.
Have A Plan
You can’t simply jump to posting on Facebook and expect the views to pour in. You need a plan first and foremost. Set your goals on how often you will post, what content you want to present, and have an idea of your target audience. You need to know about them, even if they don’t know about you.
Think Marathon, Not Sprint
If you’re starting to bring your business to social media, you need to remember that no one knows you! Even if you have an established business, you need to get people interested in your page first and foremost, and it won’t happen overnight. Prepare to have months of little traffic. Every post is going to help flush out your identity, and every ad you run is going to put you in the minds of more and more people. It will take time, but it will pay dividends.
Inspire Conversation
The most active person on your page should be you. Talk with everyone who comments. Even a simple “thank you” message will help you. People are more likely to engage if they are going to be involved in a conversation. Most importantly, make sure you invite everyone that leaves a reaction to your post! Clicking on the number of reactions shows you who engaged, and lets you invite them to like your page. This is the easiest and one of the most effective ways to grow your page.
Don’t Get Discouraged
The amount of engagement on a post is not the only metric you should look at. Some posts might get 100 comments and will not lead to sales or leads, while some posts might have 3 comments but net you 10 customers. Social media is an incredible tool, but it is only a piece of the puzzle. Keep experimenting, learning, and growing. It might take time to find your core audience, but with a little work, you will!
There are a number of great ways to spark engagement with your audience, including Facebook groups, so make sure you take the time to explore them all!
