Facebook is one of the oldest social media platforms out there, but it certainly isn’t out of date. The social networking app continues to evolve and innovate experiences on the app. Facebook has been slowly integrating “grid view” to more accounts, offering a new look at viewing profiles.
As a Digital Marketing Strategist, I was excited to see a new feature pop up, because it offers a new way for my clients to connect with their audiences. Here’s how this feature can benefit your company’s digital marketing plan.
Users Can Filter Content Easily
Facebook’s grid view makes it easier for people to curate how they want to view profiles. Most people focus on the visual aspects of social media, so the ability to view all posts at once on a grid may make it easier to digest content. It may also be easier for them to find older posts that interest them. My experience using list view had me scrolling one post at a time, but now I have a bird’s-eye view of all the content posted this month.
Here’s where you can swap views on your profile:

Grid View Looks Like Instagram
As the great Oscar Wilde said, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.”
While Facebook is far from mediocre, it’s not a surprise that the social platform is adopting popular features from Instagram. Cross-platform posting has been a great tactic for businesses to use, so why not integrate cross-platform similarities?
When you go to grid view, posts appear as a grid of squares; each post includes a text snippet and publication date. The posts are grouped together by month for a simple overall look.

Considerations for Grid View
This feature made me consider how it will play into my strategy (and possibly yours!) for posting on Facebook moving forward.
A Balance of Graphics, Photos, and Videos
If grid view were to become permanent or used in favor of list view, it would benefit your company to have a variety of media to share. If you rely on graphics or stock images for your social media posts, your business profile might lose that human touch. Audiences prefer to see human faces and a variety of content. You can still use static graphic images, but switch those up with video, and include photos of your business or employees.
Grid View’s Value on Business Owners
With an overview look at your previous posts, you can easily identify what posts you have shared, how often you’ve posted about a topic, or even the last offers you’ve shared. This might not sound like much – but your audience now has all your content at a glance! That’s a useful feature for content creation. Be thoughtful when curating content: use brand colors to bring a cohesive look to your feed, and make sure your content aligns with your business brand.
