While you were recovering from your Labor Day festivities, tech experts spent the week coming up with more ways to improve your business. Instagram is branching out in the advertising world while Facebook is aiming to be your one-stop-shop. Here’s what you might’ve missed in the social media world this week.

Instagram Expands Advertising

On Wednesday, Instagram announced a new plan to help companies around the world advertise on the site. By the end of the month, an additional 30 countries will be able to advertise on the app. The newcomers include Mexico, Spain, Italy, India and South Korea. Before this week’s report, advertising was only available in eight countries. Instagram is also giving companies new ways to market their products. The features include 30-second video ads, call to action buttons like “shop now” and sign up,” and a new format called “Marquee” which focuses on event related campaigns.

Facebook Gets Down to Business

The social media giant is making it easier for companies to run their operation solely through the site. Facebook released a statement Tuesday saying, “The new features for Pages reflect our belief that no matter if you’re a plumbing company, a flower shop, a non-profit or a brand, your Page should house the information people are looking for, help you communicate with your customers, and support your unique goals.” The new features boil down to two sections: shopping and services. On a shopping page, businesses will be capable of selling their products directly from their page. The services section allows companies to highlight their offerings. These new features are still in the testing phase but executives say the tools will become available to more businesses in the coming weeks.
