During this time when so many companies are suffering due to business closures and lack of spending, many business owners are turning to social media for guidance. Social media platforms are stepping up with new features to help businesses market in uncertain times.
Google Re-introduces Discovery Ads
According to Google, “86 percent of online consumers say they’re on the lookout for shopping ideas as they watch videos or explore content across the web.” Google Discovery Ads help businesses engage these audiences. Discovery Ads show up on three different Google properties: YouTube, Google Search and Gmail.
On YouTube, users will be able to see your products on the Home and Watch Next feeds. Users will also be able to view these ads on the Google search page. In Gmail, users will see ads on the Promotions and Social tabs of their email account.
Facebook Validates High-Profile Accounts
Although Facebook has been verifying accounts with large audiences since 2018, the platform is now adding additional security measures. With this update, posts that go viral too quickly or accounts that demonstrate inauthentic behavior will be flagged.
If the user decides not to verify their identity or the ID provided does not match the linked Facebook account, the distribution of the viral post will be decreased. If the person posting is a Page admin, they will need to complete Page Publishing Authorization and will not be able to post from the Page until their account is verified.
Instagram Shows Support For Creators
To help creators monetize their efforts, Instagram has crafted ways to make money through Instagram Live and IGTV.
One way Instagram has done this is with the launch of Instagram Badges. Badges will appear next to a person’s name throughout a live Instagram video. Fans who have purchased badges during the live video will stand out in the comments and unlock features like placement on a creator’s list of badge holders.
In addition, Instagram is introducing ads in IGTV. These ads will appear when users click to watch IGTV videos from previews in their feed. The video ads will be built for mobile and will be up to 15 seconds long. Over time, Instagram will test the IGTV ads to ensure the results work well for users, creators and advertisers.
