Facebook Rolls Out More Social Media Education Programs

Aug 2020

Just as Facebook wraps up their “Summer of Support” sessions, the social media giant announced a new lineup of free education courses and awareness programs as part of National Black Business Month.

The series of free webinars will begin on August 12th and include everything from business advice to panel discussions that are designed to inspire, uplift and help Black-owned businesses across the country.

Facebook released a statement saying, “We’re partnering with the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. (USBC) to host Black Business August, a series of free virtual trainings, small business panels and expert speakers that will continue all month long. The topics we’ll cover range from building a thriving online community to adapting in uncertain times to getting access to capital and professional networks.”

The announcement comes just one month after civil rights groups launched the campaign “Stop Hate for Profit.” The monthlong Facebook advertising boycott garnered global participation from hundreds of companies including some big name brands like Coca-Cola, Ford and Lego. The boycott was an effort to hold Facebook accountable for how its platforms are able to benefit from racism and misinformation.

The first course, “Build a Thriving Community Online,” will be held Wednesday, August 12th at 1:00 pm. Guest speakers from USBC and small business owners will discuss the importance of building a digital community for your business and how to connect amid the pandemic.
