Choosing The Best Social Media

There are tons of options out there when it comes to social media; your choices are virtually endless.  So the real question is how do you find the best forms of social media for you?  There are 8 main channels, to which I consider to be the most popular and most effective when dealing with businesses overall.  That is to say, certain companies with very specific goals might deviate from this list of eight however these are the major players: Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Foursquare, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google+ and Blogging.

Revisiting the question, which are the best ones for you, it is important to understand what each can do for you.  With this information you can begin to gather an idea of where you want to portray your business on the internet.

Twitter

Twitter is a great platform for announcing updates about your business and broadcasting them to a large audience.  It’s not uncommon for users to have thousands of followers, who pose as potential customers for the business.  You can get engagement and harbor conversations with your follows.  With a twitter account, followers can easily see what’s happening in your business. It’s important to brand a business however in traditional marketing can cost thousands. Twitter allows you deliver a constant flow of Tweets which help brand your business for free.

Twitter can also act as medium for your other channels.  For example, if your business has a blog, which might I add that every company should, you can schedule out tweets about your most recent blog post.  Twitter supports syncing capabilities with many social media sites, all of which can help spread the message about your business more effectively.  A Twitter account is one of the most basic and universal platforms to market your business.  Its easy to use and easy to track results.  In addition it is already one of the most popular with over 500 million active users.

Facebook

Much like Twitter, Facebook serves as a strong platform to reach out to fans and spark conversation.  With a Facebook account your business can market to a large group of people and allow this audience to participate in the conversation.  Your audience wants to feel as though they are part of a community and thus harboring conversations with them on Facebook does exactly that.

Facebook also brings more of a visual atmosphere to your online community.  Unlike Twitter, it’s not heavily text based and allows of the sharing of photos and videos more easily.  Facebook is a place for discussion and a place where fans can meet and interact with what’s going on in the company.  Facebook is easy to use and can offer businesses lots of versatility.  It’s good for companies who want to get started or want to add a more sophisticated twist to their social media campaign.  It’s also free and has nearly 1 billion active users! (955 million)
