Blogging for your business can be one of the most powerful marketing tools you can use. You can establish your expertise, get people to know you, and generate content that is easily shareable. Here are 3 tips for making sure you are getting the most out of your blog.
- Don’t sell! Don’t even think about selling. Your blog needs to be a resource that people can turn to when they want information about your industry. The better resource you are, the more likely they will buy from you when they are ready.
- Be a resource. Link to other blog posts that you have written, within the blog post you are writing. Chances are, they won’t click on most of the links, but simply having them there allows people to go deeper if they want. The last thing you want is for someone to want more, and have to search for it. Or worse, not be able to find where it is.
- Give them options. No, you shouldn’t sell when you write a blog, but that doesn’t mean you should keep your services hidden. At the end of your post, add a sentence or two that informs them where to go if they want to know more about your services or business. But be careful! Simply make it available to them, don’t push anything. The second you do, you break the trust with your reader. They aren’t there to be sold to; they are there to learn. If they learn from you, they will buy from you.
Blogging requires skill, just like anything else. If you are serious about blogging (and you should be), take a students attitude towards it and study the craft until you are satisfied with the results you are getting.
