‘Tis the season for New Year’s resolutions! Just as you set goals for yourself going into 2017, your business can benefit from social media goal-setting. There’s no better time to kick the bad habits and position your brand for social success. There’s always room for better content, more engagement, and innovative approaches!

Define Your Social Mix

Assess your performance across all your social channels and adjust the effort you invest in each accordingly. If 2016 was a strong year for you on Instagram, brainstorm ways to keep the momentum going. If you struggled to grow your Twitter following, you have two ways to go; Increase your efforts to make this channel engaging or drop the channel altogether.

Refresh Your Following

Give your following audience a fresh start by letting go of users who are not in your target audience and only following people who are likely to connect with your brand. While you might lose some followers as a result, if these users aren’t in your target audience to begin with, they aren’t likely to engage with your content or buy your product or service. Remember – when it comes to followers, quality trumps quantity.

Ask Yourself, “Why Do I Care?”

When it comes to social media success, content is king. Before posting something, ask yourself this question: “Why do I care?” This is exactly what your users are saying to themselves. If you can’t come up with an answer, then it might be worth rethinking your post.

You’ve heard it time and time again; video is taking over, and if you aren’t yet exploring this option, it’s time to do so. Nearly every social platform has integrated video capabilities into its core offerings, and doing so can give your brand a serious boost.

Build Meaningful Relationships

Social media isn’t just about marketing; it’s also about making connections. Your audience wants to feel valued, and if you can make them feel that way, they are more likely to become a loyal follower. Make it a priority to focus on the people at the other end, and not just your content. Because while there may be many of them, they only have to remember you. So make sure everybody’s experience leaves them wanting to come back for more.
