Yes, I do. Thanks for asking. In fact, I don’t go anywhere new without checking it out on Yelp first… or Yelping, as I like to call it. It has saved me from a lot of bad places and has also led me to some of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at.
Point proven this weekend: Katie and I were on our way up to Ventura to make some wine (an anniversary present from Katie and a new hobby of mine). We were meeting my sister in law and her husband there for breakfast before we set off to make wine. After being on the road for a few minutes, her sister let us know that we needed to find a place to eat. Ugh, how are we supposed to know, I have never even been there! Then, the light went off. Yelp!
Katie grabbed her phone and within 2 minutes, we had a list of the best places to eat brunch on a Saturday morning in Ventura. We picked the top one and we were set. The place was called Cafe Nuveau and it was great! 4 stars on Yelp certainly seemed within reason and that is the rating I will give it when I write my review.
What would we have done without social media? What would we have done had it been 5 years ago and I didn’t have a smart phone with an app that let me look up a restaurant while we were driving along the 405 at 9 in the morning? Find a yellow book? Look for something when I got there? Those seem like the probable answers. Unfortunately, we probably would have ended up at Denny’s… Instead, we got to check out a local place with tons of character, great service, and even better food.
That’s the power of social media, and that’s why I love it.
