My New Tweeps!

Tweeps: it’s your Twitter Peeps! What I love about all the different social media channels is that all of the major channels are distinctly different in so many ways.

Your Twitter Account isn’t Still Speaking to Facebook or Linkedin is it?

Linking Facebook to twitter is the most commonly accepted update that is still happening. Like Chuck Woolery, I love this connection. Twitter is the little bird of social media that talks a lot and can get away with it. Facebook is more of a quality update that might happen more than once a day but can easily be added to a twitter stream-if you’re active on twitter. If you just have twitter set up solely as a repeat reference for Facebook then call Joey Greco because you’ve got a problem.

Happy (Surprise) Birthday!

I think that surprises are harder and harder to pull off these days with the high use of social media, but leave it to my wife and friends to know better than to post anything on their FB pages or Twitter accounts about their plans for the evening.

Hey, You Look Just Like Your Avatar!

I should mention here that I hate Twitter. Really, I hate it. And if you asked why, I would tell you that it’s the social media channel that gets the most crap filtered through it. People use it just to toot their own horns, or to pass along an endless stream of links to articles from their Google alerts without ever actually ‘saying’ anything. Or – even worse – there are those people that say too much: posting every 90 seconds for hours at a time. My stream is filled with so much information on their favorite quotes, unusual sandwich order, or 3 paragraphs of musings on any topic, disseminated one sentence at a time, that I never get to hear from anyone else. It’s exhausting. And to be honest, (at the risk of making myself out to be a total social media outcast) whenever I reply to a tweet or actually care enough about something somebody wrote to send a direct message, the recipient almost never writes back.
