Did you know that Facebook has 1 billion active monthly mobile users?  The social media giant announced the milestone last week. Overall, the site has 1.28 billion active monthly users worldwide.

This demographic may seem high until you look around and notice that seemingly everyone, from teens to seniors, has not only a mobile phone but a smartphone. You aren’t far off. A recent report by Nielsen, revealed that for the first time in history, the majority of mobile subscribers in the U.S. owns a smartphone.

Frequently, users are turning to their smartphones and other mobile devices to engage with people and businesses on social media. In order for businesses to keep up with the growing demographic, they need to ensure their content is optimized for the mobile use.

Here are 3 tips for creating Facebook content that appeals to mobile users:

Keep it Simple

Checking Facebook and other social channels on a mobile device usually means the user is on the go or between activities. To keep your fans from skipping over your content, make sure that is concise and effortless to consume. Users can easily navigate away from lengthy or difficult to understand content. In addition, the screen sizes of mobile devices make this type of content hard to read.

Be Visual

The best content on Facebook is always visual. Use photos, videos, infographics and other visual mediums to convey your message whenever possible. Make sure the content is a good quality and displays well on both mobile and desktop devices. When in doubt, check it on your own device before posting. Is it clear on your computer but too small on your smartphone? Or is it crisp on your smartphone and distorted on your computer? If it won’t work on both mobile and desktop devices, don’t use it!

Limit Links

Finding content from a reputable source that relates to your business is fantastic and you definitely want to share this with your fans.  However, if the content is hard to find, be mindful when posting as mobile users may give up. A good rule of thumb for posting content from other sources is to ensure that your fans can get to it with only one click.

For example, if you find a blog that references a new study, it is best to post the direct URL to the study and not the blog. When posting videos on Facebook from sites like YouTube, use the link generated by clicking the “Share” button under the video. This will allow your fans to get directly to the content quickly.

It is also good to keep the posting area clean of long URLs. You can unclutter your post by removing the URL after the content populates. This will keep your posts looking professional and easy to navigate.

The power of mobile social media usage is endless for growing your business. Keeping these tips in mind will help you turn more fans into leads. With 24/7 access to content, they can see your content wherever they are and act immediately!
