Tweeps: it’s your Twitter Peeps!
What I love about all the different social media channels is that all of the major channels are distinctly different in so many ways. What has become glaringly different to me is the friends that I have on each different channel. Case in point, I have met very, very few of the people I follow or follow me on Twitter! It’s different than say Facebook, where everyone I am friends with is someone I have actually had an interaction with in person (I go for quality over quantity).
However, this weekend was a prime example of the power of Twitter. I was at a photo shoot for one of our clients who is a fashion designer for her spring line. The photographer and make-up and hair stylist were from Regard Magazine. As they were getting set up, I asked if they were on Twitter, which they were! I found them, followed them, and tweeted them out as we were getting the day started. I had only had a brief introduction to them, but was already connected to them in so many ways online.
As the day progressed, they retweeted and followed us back, it opened up a whole conversation about what each of us do. We were able to find out a lot about each other during the photo shoot without having to SAY it all. It was a great conversation starter and allowed us to get past the awkward first few minutes of meeting someone and got directly into a really good conversation by the end of the day.
That is what I love about Twitter, it is so simple to connect to people and to find out about them in a short amount of time. It’s a very powerful tool that can be intimidating at first, but when you learn how to use it, it can be one of the most effective social media platforms available. If you’re not already, start using twitter, you will be happy you did.
