As we begin to enter a stage of lockdowns, platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest are planning ways to make the transition easier and to assist businesses with their marketing efforts during these challenging times.

Facebook Launches Screen Sharing for Messenger

To make showing content to your friends, colleagues and business partners easier, Facebook has added Facebook screen sharing capabilities for video calls and Messenger Rooms. Screen sharing can be done one-on-one or in a group video call with up to eight people. On the other hand, screen sharing can be done with up to 16 people in Rooms while using Messenger.  Screen sharing gives you the opportunity to share photos from your camera roll, a website, a social media profile, and much more!

Instagram Creates Personal Fundraisers

Now business owners and professionals can use Instagram as a fundraising tool. To create a Personal Fundraiser on Instagram, tap “Edit Profile,” “Add Fundraiser” and then click “Raise Money.” After, you choose a photo, select a fundraiser category and add details to help share your story. You will then need to enter your information for Stripe, Facebook’s payment processor for donations and click “Send” so Facebook can review the proposed fundraiser. All fundraisers must go through a review process to ensure they are for eligible causes. Once Facebook approves the fundraiser, you will be able to start raising money. Each fundraiser lasts 30 days and can be extended for 30 more days. To create a fundraiser, you must be at least 18 years old.

Pinterest Shares Search Trends Amid COVID-19

Although Pinterest is known as a place to look for recipes and other inspiration, recently pinners have been using the platform for much more.

According to Pinterest search trends, searches for stress relief activities have quadrupled, as well as mental wellness ideas including meditation (+44%), gratitude (+60%) and positivity (+42%).

In addition to mental wellness, many Pinterest users are thinking about future goal planning. This includes starting a new business (+ 35%), future life goals (doubled), life bucket list (+65%), family goals future (+30%) and future house goals (+78%).

The last category that has been searched more during this time is home improvement ideas. The results show an increase in searches for outdoor spaces on a budget (tripled), diy patio ideas on a budget (17 times more popular than before the pandemic), as well as backyard oasis on a budget (increased by more than 5 times).

Knowing the search trends is important for business owners to be able to tailor their marketing strategies and create content that will appeal to the widest audience.
