You can also create your own room and discuss anything you’d like. When you enter a room, you are muted and remain a listener. If you’d like to join the discussion, you can do so by using the “raise your hand” feature and a moderator (the creator of the room) can choose to let you speak. Only creators can let someone speak, and it gives a sense of being in a discussion panel or Q&A.
What’s Different About This App?
The differentiator with Clubhouse compared to other social media sites is that it’s an audio-centered app. Other than your profile image, you don’t have to worry about being camera-ready or keeping eye contact. This app is unique because it’s essentially camera-free. At a time when being connected is more important than ever, the app focuses on the most critical part of communication – your voice. The Clubhouse website claims that this format will “allow you to pick up on nuance and form uniquely human connections with others.”
How Do You Join Clubhouse?
For now, Clubhouse registration is invite-only and available for download exclusively on iOs phones. This means that people who are invited can use the app and join immediately. However, if you don’t have an invite, you can pre-register by choosing a username and listing a phone number. You won’t have access, but you’ll reserve your name. The company plans to slowly expand and hopes to make Clubhouse available to all and for Android devices.
